Website Navigation:
Design in Infospace
|
This page deals with how to design a website to optimise the user's
experience and benefits from it. Especially oriented towards
"Information Architecture", i.e. designing the organization and
navigation systems that help users find information, this topic is a
meld of concepts from traditional architecture, library science, user
interface design, and usability studies.

IBM Human-Computer
Interaction for Designers and Developers
|
"Our intention is to provide you with a solid foundation for designing
and developing user-friendly interfaces. Understanding our strategy,
our underlying principles, and key aspects is only the beginning.
We plan to provide you with user models and tools to assist you in
creating these interfaces. This is a new service and we encourage
feedback--we want to ensure that you get what you need,
so please provide us with comments and suggestions."

Information Interaction Design: A Unified Field Theory of Design
|
"Information Interaction Design is the intersection of three different
disciplines: Information Design, Interaction Design, and Sensorial
Design. Information Design's roots are in the publishing and graphic
design worlds, although few people in these worlds intentionally
practice them. This discipline addresses the organization and
presentation of data-thus the transformation of data into valuable,
meaningful information. It is something that everyone has always done
to some extent, mostly unconsciously, but has only recently been
identified as a discipline in itself with proven processes that can be
employed or taught. Unfortunately, there are precious few sources for
learning about the practice."
Remarkably similar to my own thesis of the
web design trilogy.

SIGCHI World Wide Web
Special Interest Area
|
The World Wide Web Special Interest Area of SIGCHI focuses on the human
factors of the WWW. The goals of WWW SIA are to act as a focal point
for Web interest within SIGCHI, to advance user-centered design as an
integral component of the Web, and to integrate Web technology into the
SIGCHI infrastructure.
WWW SIA accomplishes these goals through this site, a mailing list
(CHI-Web) for discussing issues and organizing activities, and a
Bulletin column (starting some time in 1998).
