May Not Work on a Mac

June 10, 2002

The superscript numbers appear as regular non-superscript numbers. Note that a few Latin symbols are problematic on a Mac, these were dealt with in the earlier Latin characters table. Older Mac browsers can have problems with fractions, as noted in the first "Common Symbols" table.

Character Numeric Symbolic Description
¤ ¤ ¤ currency
¹ ¹ ¹ superscript one
² ² ² superscript two
³ ³ ³ superscript three

For IE6 and Netscape 6

For some bizarre reason, these are also likely to work on a Mac with IE5, but not a PC with IE5.

Character Numeric Symbolic Description

∠ ∠ angle
∪ ∪ union

⊕ ⊕ circled plus
⊥ ⊥ up tack
∝ ∝ proportional to
∴ ∴ therefore

Only Suitable for Fully HTML 4 Compliant Browsers

That means Netscape 6, which is a lot more compliant than IE6. A Mac running IE5 is likely to cope with most of them, and the few exceptions are noted in the table.
