The Image Slicer Tools
October 6, 2000
The Arrow or selector tool is used to select table cells and to
move previous slice lines to a new location. To move a line select
the button and place the cursor over the line to be moved. When
it changes to a two headed arrow press the left mouse button to
drag the line to a new position. You can drag a line up to another
line but not across it. If you have a slice that spans the
entire image but would like to move only that portion of the line
that is in one cell you can do so by holding the shift key in while
dragging the line.
The Grid is an easy and fast tool used to divide an image up into
equal parts. Obviously this won't work on images that need to be
divided into uneven parts, but for uniform sections it's great!
To use it select the grid button, place the cursor over your image
and click to open the Grid Size dialog box. Set the number
of rows and columns you need with the sliders and click OK. Wah-lah!
The image is evenly sectioned!
The Slicer Tool is used to cut the image into sections of your
choice. Place the cursor where you would like to make a slice.
Press and hold the left mouse button while dragging horizontally or
vertically to make the slice.
You've got the opportunity for complex table structure here
so feel free to be imaginative!
The Delete tool can be used to remove lines within table cells that
you've decided you no longer want. Place the cursor over the line
to be removed. When it changes to a little eraser, click and the
offending line is gone!
The Pan tool allows you to move larger images around in the
preview window.
Cells Have Properties Too!
You'll notice that the top left slice in the example above is
surrounded by green while all the rest of the cells are surrounded by
red. The section surrounded by green is the active slice. The Cell
Properties panel allows you to specify a URL, alt text and target to
the active cell.
The URL may either be typed into the URL box or selected from
previous URLs in the URL field drop-down menu. The Alt text box
allows you to provide alternate text for the cell selection. The
Target field gives you a choice of _blank, _self, _target, or _top.
Notice too, the check box labeled
Include cell in table. This gives you the option of
specifying if the active cell will appear in the table or not. The
default setting on a new image is checked, meaning the cell will
appear in the table. By omitting unwanted cells you not only
reduce the load time but make space to insert text once you exit
PSP and start editing in your favorite text editor.
