Chiseled Inner Bevel Type - Page 8

Here's a type effect using just Photoshop's built-in filters to
create an inner beveled chiseled look to your type. Effects like
these were traditionally created using a complex series of
channels, but this simple technique uses no channels at all.
Note: Increase the values shown here for high-res, 300-ppi
images.
| High-powered Chiseling
Photoshop 6.0 allows you to create a hard-edged chisel effect via
the Bevel and Emboss Layer Effects by changing the Tech-nique to
Chisel Hard. Another way to create a hard-edged chisel effect is
to use Alien Skin ’s Inner Bevel plug-in from their EyeCandy 3.0
collection of Photoshop plug-in filters. For more information on

STEP ONE: Open a new 72-ppi document in RGB mode. Create your
text in black (serif fonts, such as Goudy, Trajan, etc., set at
large type sizes look best). Rasterize your type by going under
the Layer menu, under Rasterize, and choosing Type. Click on the
Foreground color to bring up the Color Picker and choose 50% gray
as your foreground color (50% K).

STEP TWO: Hold the Command key (PC: Control key) and click once
on your text layer s name in the Layers palette to put a
selection around your text. Go under the Edit menu and choose
Stroke. When the Stroke dialog box appears, use 3 pixels for the
Width, choose Inside for Location, and click OK (don t deselect
quite yet).

STEP THREE: Go under the Filter menu, under Stylize, and choose
Emboss. For your Emboss settings, enter 135 ° for the Angle , 3
pixels for the Height , and 100 for Amount, then click OK. Press
Command-D (PC: Control-D) to deselect. Press Command-U (PC:
Control-U) to bring up the Hue/Saturation dialog box. Check the
Colorize box in the bottom right-hand corner of the dialog box.

STEP FOUR: In the Hue/Saturation dialog box, slide the Hue
slider to 38, Saturation to 70, and Lightness to -13, and click
OK to give your text a gold hue. Go under the Filter menu, under
Sharpen, and choose Unsharp Mask. When the dialog box appears,
choose 125 for Amount, 1 for Radius, 10 for Threshold, and click
OK to complete the effect. Of course, I d probably add a drop
shadow, but hey, that s just me.
