W3C Electronic Commerce page details
the JEPI (Joint Electronic Payment Initiative) project underway at the W3C.
This project studies the point in time after shopping and before payment where the exact
payment instrument (credit card, debit card, electronic check, electronic cash, etc.)
must be agreed upon between the browsing client and the merchant server.
Visa's Set Standards is the Secure Electronic Transaction specification
that is a single technical standard for safeguarding payment card purchases
made over open networks.
VeriSign assigns digital ID's
that provide a way to prove your identity in electronic transactions. These ID's
are considered your key or signature but are more secure.
A Digital ID helps to prevent people from using phony keys to impersonate
other users. Used in conjunction with encryption, Digital IDs provide a more complete
security solution.

CommerceNet Consortium is an
organization made up of members from banks, telecommunication companys, ISPs,
software and services companies. It provides news and information
about electronic commerce technologies.
Electronic Commerce Canada is an organization
based in Canada that provides its members information and networking opportunities.
The Financial Services Technology Consortium
is a consortium of banks, financial services providers, national
laboratories, universities, and government agencies who sponsor
and participate in non-competitive collaborative research and
development on interbank technical projects. It has reports on its meetings and projects.
