Test the movie
February 21, 2000
Everything we have done so far has been in the first frame of the
movie. No motion. No time. Just one static frame that lasts 1/12 of
a second. Take a look at the movie in its current state to get an
idea of how far along we are, (CTRL - ENTER, or Control > Test
Movie).
This plays the movie approximately how it will appear in a browser,
with a couple of key differences. First, you can see everything - not
just the stage - so don't freak out if you see the penguin in your
movie when he is supposed to be hovering offstage. The coolest thing
you can see in the test movie view is the bandwidth profiler. To see
it, select View > Bandwidth Profiler. This will provide priceless
information later on when you are trying to optimize complex movies
to load quickly for people with slow connections.
When you are satisfied that you have seen enough in the test movie
view, just close the player, (it looks like you are closing your .fla
file, but you are actually just closing the player). You should now
be looking at your movie again, just where we left off.
In the next installment we'll discuss making the penguin move
across the ice, how to compose images, gradients and file
sizes.
