The Java Gallery

Java (TM) is a relatively new programming language that was invented by Sun Microsystems. It is an object-oriented platform essentially based on existing programming languages - especially C++. It enables internet users to participate in interactive multimedia features like animation and calculation. Using small Java programs, called Applets, Web pages can include multimedia features.

I've added The Java Machine to our Gallery. This is definitely one of the coolest Java apps I've seen recently. Personal Software illustrates a couple of applications for it. Another cool Java app, in fact a very useful one, is the Topic Index. In fact I thought it was so useful I've added it to our standard nav.bar.

Karl Hörnell has a nice set of original applets at Java on the brain. I especially like his Rubik Unbound. Twist or rotate by pointing and dragging in "natural" directions. Press s to scramble and r to restore (while positioning the mouse cursor somewhere in the applet region).

I had also added a Java jobs finder to the site, but decided to remove it due to some uncertainty about the logos that the authors had placed on it. I have asked but they have not yet assured me that they have explicit permission to use the logos. Diana points out the following in connection with the logos:- the 100% Pure Java Certification logo; and JavaSoft's Logo Policy.
