Gimme Sum Mo

If a hyper-intelligent interface isn't good enough for you, then check
out Live Motion's raster- or bitmap-oriented features.
You may just be keen enough to work with the inherent strengths of the
Flash format, steering away from raster images. But the first thing
that every client will want is jpegs and gifs flying in and out, wiping
video-style, and such nonsense. If you get stuck in this lot, LM is
your brand new bag.

This is a dialogue for applying a filter to a layer of a .psd image.
You can also animate individual layers of a Photoshop image. This
will definitely come in handy if you use Photoshop.

OFF-CENTER ADMONITION:
Use raster images in .swf sparingly and discreetly. Collage is an art
method that is executed poorly far more often than well. Adobe pulled
off another big-company-coup by including an
example of good use
of a groundbreaking feature on the Live Motion site. Take a look at it.
Hillman Curtis uses
a lot of this kind of mixed media to excellent effect. Look at his
work. Before you go off trying to make an MTV video in .swf, look at
his animations and count how many unique images are in a movie. Look
at how they move. Do you ever see raster images attempting to execute
smooth, uniform motion or scaling?
(1) If you don't use Photoshop, hang your head
in shame, go to the store and get a big bottle of cheap liquor, and
repeatedly ask yourself,
"What have I done with my LIFE?"
