The enhanced Character palette gives you all of the control you could want over your text. Included among the functions are bold, italic, all caps, small caps, superscript, subscript, underline and strikethrough. A new level of anti-aliasing, called Sharp, is geared towards making small text readable on the web.

The Spell Checker has Arrived!

The new spell checker is another "must have" feature. Not only does it check spelling, but it's multlinguel, checking spelling in multiple languages in the same document. There's also a new search and replace feature to correct spelling errors across layers in the same document!

Web Ready

Photoshop 7.0 is more ready for the web than any previous version has ever been. New features and enhancements ease the pain of rollovers, slicing and dicing, and transparencies. With little more than the click of a button you can now create complex navigation bars with selected state, slide shows for your family photo collection and more!

Rollovers

Image Ready is ready -- ready to join forces with web designers for easy creation and management of rollover effects! In the past, rollovers and animations could only be viewed one slice at a time, but in this latest release we can finally see an overview of all of the various document states in the new Rollovers palette. The rollover palette makes it convenient and easy to navigate through image maps, animations and rollovers in a document. Now you can add a layer-based rollover by clicking a button! A new Rollover state called "Selected State" allows you to create nav-bar-like graphics without hand coding. check out the WebMockUp, but be warned, only the first three tabs work.

Web Gallery

Have you ever spent hours cropping, rotating, watermarking, converting to jpg, and coding endless HTML to put your photo collection online? Wish there were an easier way? Now there is! And Photoshop 7 is the answer. Even without all of the other great new tools, this one feature is worth the price of the upgrade. In a matter of just minutes, literally, Photoshop created a slideshow of eleven images complete with thumbnails, header title, and custom text inserted into each image for the copyright! The HTML (complete with a 10 second re-direct between images), and images are all saved to a new folder ready to be uploaded.

Web Output Enhancements

Remap transparencies

Creating transparencies is now as easy as clicking on the color you want to knock out. Remap more than one color at a time or restore colors to their original settings.

Unique Transparency Solution

Partial transparency isn't supported by the GIF format. Any transparent color is converted to 100% transparency. Photoshop 7.0 creates a dither pattern which simulates varying levels of opacity when placed over a solid or patterned background. Since the transparent pixels of the image aren't required to blend with a matte color when saving, a single graphic may be used over multiple backgrounds.

Sharp Vector Art and Text

Keep vector art and text looking sharp and crisp by letting Photoshop or ImageReady handle it for you. Photoshop will reduce the overall file size while giving areas you specify a higher quality.

Bottom Line

Was everyone's long wait worth it? You bet it was. The File Browser, Healing Brush, and Web Gallery make this upgrade well worth the price, but there's more. You also get the new Paint Engine, Security features, Spell Checker and customized workspaces! Adobe has outdone themselves with this latest version of Photoshop. I would say this is a "must have" program.
