Enhanced HTML 2000 Review

Enhanced HTML 2000 is a program that holds a lot of promise for web
builders, and it already delivers on many of the most important facets
of the job.

Enhanced HTML 2000 (Version 3.3.4) is a program with which users can
quickly feel comfortable. That is because it uses an approach to web
site building - including using wizards (in this program called
"Builders") - to speed construction, much like other top quality
programs on the market.
The builders - for links, type, images, tables, lists, rules - do
a good job of offering available options so that you don't have to
rely on memory or stop and research something to finish the task at
hand. However, there is a curious lack of a builder for frames, which
seemingly would be a standard for any of today's HTML editors.
By placing the cursor within a tag and striking the F8 key, a floating
command box pops up offering all of the options available for that
particular tag. Clicking on the function desired places it into the
document. For repetitive tasks, you can create a macro and quickly
access it through a click of a button.
The program does not offer anything beyond support for style sheets -
they must either be built by hand or by using an external style sheet
editor.
Like most of today's HTML programs, Enhanced HTML 2000 uses customizable
button bars to do most of the mundane tasks, such as inserting breaks,
non-breaking spaces, comments, rules, type enhancements, and colors.
The interface is fairly standard, with most functions easily accessible.
Switching from the working page to the preview is as simple as pressing
a tab just above where you insert the HTML coding. Preview is instant
and accurate. Word wrap for the editor and tag coloring are also
available in the same area.
Those features that are not accessible through buttons are easily
reached by using the drop down menus at the top of the page.
Enhanced HTML 2000 offers drag-and-drop insertion of images and links,
but in using the program in preparation for this review, this feature
did not properly work. I could insert images by placing the cursor at
the chosen site and double clicking on the image name, but links could
not be established that way because double clicking would open the file.
However, these functions are otherwise available using the Builders.
Enhanced HTML 2000 is a program that I like but would like to see it
become more complete. It already has a lot of positive features, and
with a little tweaking, it could become one of the better choices
around.
