Matrix Y2K 6.0 bills itself as a Web studio rather than a simple
HTML editing program, and it lives
up to that billing by having a number of very nice features.
|
One of the best features is that the program is free despite
offering advantages some HTML programs do not provide even for a
fee.
Among those offerings of note are:
- A self-contained image browser.
- Code Inside: A library of code snippets the user can
insert into a document by using keywords. This is also a great
and easy way to add JavaScripts to a page.
- A nice table generator.
At any point in the page building process, users can click on a
preview button to see what their creation will look like in a
browser. The preview will appear in the editing window. Click
another preview button, and the page will be shown in the user's
external browser.
Matrix's interface is clean and not at all unlike many others in
its design, so those people with a little experience using such
tools can be productive almost immediatly.
Matrix, available in Dutch or English, has the standard file
management windows on the left of the screen, enabling users to
easily find files. When looking for image files, double clicking
on a graphic will automatically open the image viewer.
The program has all the standard quick edit buttons, such as
those for text alignment, bold face, italics, rules, and
paragraphs.
While users can create their documents in the program, it also
will import .RTF and .DOC files, enabling users to write their
items in a word editor before bringing them into the program. It
will also allow users to write word files and export them to .RTF
format.
Matrix allows users to go through preferences and choose the
editing features they wish to have for text, except for one
— word wrap. This feature is being added in version 6.1,
eliminating the annoying practice of having to scroll to the side
to read each line in its entirety.
The upcoming update will also enable users to easily add Flash
movies, and let them preview their page without having to first
save it.
Matrix 6.0 has a nice search-and-replace function for the current
document, but none for entire Web sites or folders. HTML syntax
highlighting is on all the time. It also allows users to hide as
many of the toolbars as they wish.
When the user has finished creating an HTML document, it can be
placed online from within the program, using Matrix's link to the
user's FTP program.
Matrix Y2K 6.0 is a good program for people with varying degrees
of HTML ability. It offers enough automation to make many tasks
easy for less experienced users, and its speed is nice for more
veteran users.
