Dreamweaver MX and Internet Applications - Page 3

September 30, 2002

Dreamweaver MX is an integrated development environment that supports all of the major server side technologies in use today: ColdFusion, ASP, ASP.NET, JSP, and PHP. Dreamweaver MX takes advantage of the intricacies of each technology to unlock the unique power that each provides. Dreamweaver MX allows developers to integrate XML based web services into their web applications whether using Cold Fusion MX, ASP.NET, or JSP.

Dreamweaver MX and ColdFusion MX
The Dreamweaver MX team and the Coldfusion MX team worked together to ensure that all of the latest innovations in Coldfusion were exposed in the Dreamweaver interface. The combination of the ColdFusion MX features and Dreamweaver MX provides a powerful development environment. Web developers of all skill levels will find this combination a quick and easy way to build internet applications.

A set of application objects and behaviors enable users to visually build Internet applications with a minimal of coding. Support for database query and results pages, database insert and update forms, user authentication, and query result navigation allow developers to build complete applications without writing a single line of code if desired.

Dreamweaver MX and ASP.NET
There is no need for the average ASP developer to spend countless hours sorting out the complexity of insulating their data layer from their display layer. Dreamweaver MX includes a set of custom ASP.NET server controls that include sophisticated data access code for database query and updating, handling exceptions, and routing users to appropriate error pages. The code for these tags can be automatically generated by Dreamweaver's set of application objects and behaviors or hand written by users who want to develop their own application logic. Users can quickly create DataGrids. DataLists, and data insert and update pages using the built-in application objects and behaviors.

Dreamweaver MX and JSP/J2EE
Dreamweaver MX supports J2EE technology, easily integrating with leading J2EE application servers, such as Macromedia JRun, IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic, and Oracle. Dreamweaver MX also supports several Java-specific technologies like Java Tag Libraries and JavaBeans.

Dreamweaver MX ships with a set of default objects and behaviors, enabling developers to get applications built fast. With these objects, developers can quickly build database query and result pages, user authentication, result navigation, and database insert and update pages. All of the objects use standard Java code for their logic.

Dreamweaver MX allows developers to introspect JavaBeans and drag and drop their methods and properties directly onto a JSP.

Dreamweaver MX and PHP
Dreamweaver MX supports PHP as a standalone server model to the same degree that it supports ColdFusion, ASP and JSP. Built in objects and behaviors allow the developer to rapidly build applications powered by PHP and mySQL. Code editing support allows the user to layout the design in the design environment and use the integrated development features to build their applications by hand.

Standards

Macromedia has improved support for industry standards, including recommendations from the W3C. New and improved features include support for XML, XHTML, CSS, code validation and multilingual authoring.

Full XHTML support includes an HTML - to - XHTML conversion, an option for full XHTML compliant code generation, and XHTML 1.0 Strict and Transitional validation.

The redesigned CSS panel offers different modes for editing and applying styles. It also distinguishes between external and local style sheets. TopStyle Lite has been integrated with the program, making CSS authoring a snap.

Dreamweaver MX includes features that help the developer to build and maintain sites that conform to the accessibility guidelines. A built in checker pinpoints problem areas and checks new sites for compliance. These checks can be run against a single page or an entire site. The Accessibility Authoring Mode, Reference Content, and Accessible Tag Notification all go hand in hand to help the developer produce compliant code.

With all of this, who could want more? But wait! There is more...
